Starting in 1994, it all began with a couple of locals spinning yarns over the bar at the Town and Country Club, coming up with ways to put Julia Creek on the map. Low and behold, in one of Queensland’s hottest and harshest climates the idea to run a triathlon was born!

Whilst many would have scoffed at the idea, the challenge was taken up by competitors in what was the newest tough sport. Just fifteen people participated in the very first Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Triathlon - now more than 300 athletes make the trip to Julia Creek to compete

The triathlon continues to grow both in numbers and esteem. It’s not easy, but then nothing is in this part of Australia, that's the challenge! Renowned as one of the toughest triathlons in the country, the Dirt n Dust triathlon has long been seen as not only a bucket list item but also a bragging right, with competitors overcoming the toughest outback conditions and continuing to return each year to better their personal bests. The likes of Olympians Brad Beven, Loretta Harrop, Courtney Atkinson and Emma Jackson have all competed for the crown including Lee Carseldine one of the contestants on the 2020 current All-star survivors program.

REGISTRATION SIGN ON AND RACE PACK COLLECTION WILL BE FROM 4PM - 9PM ON FRIDAY UNDER THE WATER TOWER, NEAR DIRT N DUST CENTRAL.

REGISTRATIONS WILL BE OPEN SOON.
